The premise
A mid-size freight operator runs on three systems and a shared inbox. When a shipment slips, a coordinator opens five tabs, reconstructs the story by hand, and makes a call that nobody records. The knowledge of how to recover a load exists only in the heads of four people.
How we would approach it
- 01
Model the exception, not the happy path
The valuable work is not booking a shipment — it is the eleven ways a shipment goes wrong. We map the exception taxonomy first and treat each one as a first-class object.
- 02
Assemble the story automatically
An agent pulls the tracking events, the carrier email thread, the customer commitment and the margin on the load into a single brief before a human opens it.
- 03
Recommend, then record
The system proposes recovery options with cost and ETA impact. The coordinator chooses. The choice — and the reasoning — becomes training data and an audit record.
- 04
Let the interface disappear
A dense, keyboard-first console designed for people who work in one screen for eight hours, not for a demo audience.
What we would build
Exception taxonomy and data model
Retrieval and briefing agent with tool access
Keyboard-first operations console
Decision log feeding evaluation and future automation
What it is meant to prove
Concept goal: reduce the time between an exception being detected and a decision being recorded, and capture the recovery knowledge that currently leaves when a coordinator does.
Stated as an objective, not an outcome. This concept has not been delivered for a client, so there is no measured result to report — and we will not invent one.
